PEFCC 2024 Scholarship Application

PEFCC appreciates your interest in applying for a scholarship. Please read the eligibility requirements and application instructions carefully, and have your attachments ready to go before you begin. Submissions are due no later than Sunday, March 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Applications will be evaluated by the Scholarship Committee members who are independent from the PEFCC Officers and Board of Directors. The actual awarding of scholarship funds takes place at the annual scholarship banquet in November. Awardees agree to attend or send a representative of their choice to the annual banquet in November at the Our Lady of the Assumption Hall in Turlock. Students can only receive scholarships for five years for undergraduate study. Students may reapply for scholarships if enrolled in graduate school. Applicants will be notified by Tuesday, April 30, 2024. NOTE: Proof of enrollment in courses at a trade school, junior college, or university must be emailed to pefcc@portugueseeducationfoundation.org by October 1, 2024.

Successful applications should include:

1. Proof of academic ability.

2. Dedication to learning the Portuguese language and culture as demonstrated by past or present enrollment in a Portuguese language course or participation in organized Portuguese cultural activities (applicants need not be of Portuguese descent).

3. Professional goals including work with the Portuguese community.

4. Must reside or have been raised in the following central California counties: San Joaquin, Stanislaus and/or Merced counties.

Application Instructions

An online application form must be completed and the following documentation must be uploaded to the online application form. PEFCC will no longer accept a hard copy or email application form. We recommend applicants print a hard copy of the application page once completed and save it as a PDF file for their records. For any other questions, email pefcc@portugueseeducationfoundation.org.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Before beginning the application form, applicants should prepare all the PDF copies needed and the jpeg photo:

1. Two pertinent letters of recommendation from the past six months. Letters must be in PDF format and ready to upload in the online application form.

2. A PDF copy of your high school transcript if you plan to attend a college, or transcript from the college/university you are already enrolled in. (Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. If your application is selected to receive a scholarship, you must email proof of enrollment in a trade school, junior college or university to pefcc@portugueseeducationfoundation.org.)

3. A photo of a head shot that must be in .jpeg file format, size 325 x 325 pixels. By uploading a photo, you authorize PEFCC to use the photo during the banquet program and in press releases should you be a scholarship recipient.
